Mont Ventoux

Successful cyclists on Ventoux

"We've ridden some fantastic routes and climbs with you over the years, but that really was 'The Ride of My Life'! Just fabulous in every way. And the fact that you guys have already ridden this challenge yourselves meant that the support & back-up always seemed to be there in just the right place at just the right time. When are we doing it again?!"

(Cinglés de Ventoux rider)

Mont Ventoux might well be the most iconic mountain climb in cycling. Its punishing forest gradients, moonscape higher slopes, famous summit telecoms mast and legendary status in the history of the Tour de France have all made it a 'must ride' destination for generations of riders.

Adding to the cycling status of the mountain is the fact that it can be climbed from three different sides:

  • The 'traditional' Tour de France route on the southerly, more forested branch of the D974 from Bédoin.
  • The more exposed, 'grinding' ascent on the northerly D974 from Malaucène.
  • And the shallower, but still demanding D164 road which approaches from Sault.

For many, the ultimate Ventoux challenge is to attempt to climb all three of those roads on a single ride - a feat which, if achieved, can earn you membership of the highly select 'Club des Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux' (CCV) which translates as The Brotherhood of the Madmen of Mont Ventoux. As at January 2017, fewer than 11,000 riders have completed the legendary Triple. You need to ride 137km and climb 4400m to 'graduate' and join this elite group.

Mountain High are on hand to help make this fabulous challenge as enjoyable an experience as possible. Within a 3-night trip we will take care of your pre-event registration with the CCV, accommodation, meals, transport to/from Marseille airport (or Avignon TGV station), a guided warm-up ride on Day 1 and all-day vehicle support throughout your ride on the day of your Cinglés attempt (Day 2 or 3). The support vehicle will carry spare clothing, spare parts, tools, water, specialist cycling nutrition products, 'real food' snacks, sun protetction and first aid supplies - everything you might need to keep you comfortable, fuelled & hydrated and to maximise your chances of success.
